My Story

I was raised in Southern California and Hawai'i. I have grown up in communities that are rich in diversity and it has shaped who I am. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at University of California Los Angeles.  I attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, where I completed a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I worked during this time with developmentally disabled adults in the workplace, children and families in schools, runaway and homeless youth, dual-diagnosed adults in the community, and in residential treatment programs for adolescent boys. Eventually, I went back to school and attended Hawaii School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University.  I completed an APA predoctoral internship in Southern California at Pacific Clinics, where I provided therapy to children and families at the Asian Pacific Family Center.  In addition, I worked with unhoused individuals and those transitioning into housing in the South Pasadena area.  After graduating, I worked at Tripler Army Medical Center, providing individual and couple therapy to active duty service members and their families. Currently, I am in private practice. I am a past-president of the Hawaii Psychological Association and serving as the Hawaii representative to the American Psychological Association on the Council of Representatives for the term beginning 2020 until 2023. When I am not working, I enjoy quilting, crafting, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. I'm also a voracious reader! I love being outside, but not in direct sunlight. You'll often find me on the go with my dog Goofy. He’s my co-therapist and is often in the office with me or nearby when I am on screen.

We construct our lives each day with our choices, including the ones we avoid.
— Annie Nguyen
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is a sort of splendid torch, which I have got hold of for the moment; and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
— George Bernard Shaw
